	"plain_text": "Shipping giant Pitney Bowes hit by ransomware | TechCrunch\r\nBy Zack Whittaker\r\nPublished: 2019-10-14 · Archived: 2026-04-05 15:59:57 UTC\r\n9:29 AM PDT · October 14, 2019\r\nShipping tech giant Pitney Bowes has confirmed a cyberattack on its systems.\r\nThe company said in a statement that its systems were hit by a “malware attack that encrypted information” on its\r\nsystems, more commonly known as ransomware.\r\n“At this time, the company has seen no evidence that customer or employee data has been improperly accessed,”\r\nthe statement said, but many of its internal systems are offline, causing disruption to client services and other\r\ncorporate processes.\r\nThe company said it’s working with a third-party consultant to address the issue. But it’s not immediately known\r\nwhat kind of ransomware encrypted its systems.\r\nTechcrunch event\r\nSan Francisco, CA | October 13-15, 2026\r\nA spokesperson, when reached, did not comment beyond the published statement.\r\nPitney Bowes is a widely used shipping tech company that provides mailing services to sellers, with more than 1.5\r\nmillion clients across the world, including the Fortune 500. The company allows sellers to make mailing items and\r\ngoods easier and more efficient, and is widely used by sellers in marketplaces like Etsy and Shopify.\r\nSeveral customers on Twitter complained that they were unable to perform basic tasks on their account. It’s known\r\nthat some account and product support pages, and downloads, are unavailable.\r\nIt’s the latest in a string of attacks on high-profile businesses.
