"plain_text": "HBO Twitter and Facebook Accounts Hacked by OurMine\r\nArchived: 2026-04-05 12:36:19 UTC\r\nIn light of the recent reportnews article detailing its willingness to pay US$250,000 in exchange for the 1.5\r\nterabytes’ worth of data swiped by hackers from its servers, HBO finds itself dealing with yet another security\r\nbreach.\r\nKnown for hijacking prominent social media accounts, the self-styled white hat hacking group OurMine took over\r\na number of verified Twitter and Facebooknews article accounts belonging to the cable network. These include\r\naccounts for HBO shows, such as “Game of Thrones,” “Girls,” and “Ballers.”\r\nFigure 1. Screenshots of the hacked HBO Twitter accounts\r\nThe hackers posted the same message across all of the accounts, which read, “Hi, OurَMiَne are here, we are\r\njust testing your security ,HBO team please contact us to upgrade the security - ourmine .org -\u003e Contact” (sic).\r\nThey also tweeted, “let’s make #HBOHacked trending!”\r\nThe posts were deleted several minutes later.\r\nThis is not the first time that OurMine has claimed responsibility for hacking high-profile social networking\r\naccounts. Last year, the group victimized Marvelnews article, The New York Times, and even the heads of some\r\nof the biggest technology companies in the world. Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, Sundar Pichai, and Daniel Ek\r\n— the CEOs of Facebook, Twitter, Google and Spotify, respectively —  have also fallen victim to the hackers,\r\ndispelling the notion that a career in software and technology exempts one from being compromised.\r\nMitigation\r\nUsing complex and unique passwords for social networking accounts is not enough to make you completely safe\r\non the internet. You must consider adding another layer of security such as two-factor authentication (2FA), which\r\nis a login method that requires two separate types of identification.\r\nA combination of a memorized password and a unique code that comes in through SMS or a smartphone app gives\r\nmore security than just having single-factor authentication in place. Better yet, fingerprint scanning can be used on\r\nhttps://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/us/security/news/cybercrime-and-digital-threats/hbo-twitter-and-facebook-accounts-hacked-by-ourmine\r\nPage 1 of 2\n\nsupported devices for even more security.\r\nIf you’re a Twitter or Facebook user, you need only change your security settings to start using 2FA with your\r\nphone number. After setting up 2FA, you will be prompted to enter your password and the unique code sent to\r\nyour phone number each time you log in.\r\nYou can also easily set up 2FAnews article for other popular websites and online services.\r\nHIDE\r\nLike it? Paste the code into your\r\npage (Ctrl+V).\r\nImage will appear the same size as you see above.\r\nSource: https://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/us/security/news/cybercrime-and-digital-threats/hbo-twitter-and-facebook-accounts-hacked-by-our\r\nmine\r\nhttps://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/us/security/news/cybercrime-and-digital-threats/hbo-twitter-and-facebook-accounts-hacked-by-ourmine\r\nPage 2 of 2",
