When a session is in a disconnected state, running programs are kept active even though the\r\nuser is no longer actively connected.\r\nYou can limit the amount of time that active, disconnected, and idle (without user input) sessions remain on the\r\nserver. This is useful because sessions that remain running indefinitely on the RD Session Host server continue to\r\nconsume system resources.\r\nConfiguring timeout and reconnection settings on a per connection basis affects all sessions that use the\r\nconnection.\r\nYou can configure timeout and reconnection settings on a per user basis by using the Remote Desktop Services\r\nExtension to the Local Users and Groups snap-in or to the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.\r\nTimeout and reconnection settings configured by using Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration will take\r\nprecedence over timeout and reconnection settings that have been configured for a specific user account.\r\nYou can configure the following timeout and reconnection settings in Remote Desktop Session Host\r\nConfiguration.\r\nSetting Details\r\nEnd a disconnected session\r\nSpecify the maximum amount of time that a disconnected user session is kept\r\nactive on the RD Session Host server. If you specify \"Never,\" the user's\r\ndisconnected session is maintained for an unlimited time.\r\nWhen a session is in a disconnected state, running programs are kept active\r\neven though the user is no longer actively connected.\r\nActive session limit Specify the maximum amount of time that the user's Remote Desktop Services\r\nsession can be active before the session is automatically disconnected or ended.\r\nThe user receives a warning two minutes before the Remote Desktop Services\r\nsession is disconnected or ended, which allows the user to save open files and\r\nhttps://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754272(v=ws.11).aspx\r\nPage 1 of 3\n\nSetting Details\r\nclose programs.\r\nIdle session limit\r\nSpecify the maximum amount of time that an active Remote Desktop Services\r\nsession can be idle (without user input) before the session is automatically\r\ndisconnected or ended.\r\nThe user receives a warning two minutes before the session is disconnected or\r\nended, which allows the user to press a key or move the mouse to keep the\r\nsession active.\r\nWhen a session limit is\r\nreached or connection is\r\nbroken\r\nSpecify whether to disconnect or end the user's Remote Desktop Services\r\nsession when an active session limit or an idle session limit is reached.\r\nIf the user's session is disconnected, the programs that the user is running are\r\nkept active even though the user is no longer actively connected.\r\nIf the user's session is ended, the user will need to establish a new Remote\r\nDesktop Services session with an RD Session Host server.\r\nUse the following procedure to specify the timeout and reconnection settings for a remote session.\r\nMembership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, on the RD Session Host server that you plan to\r\nconfigure, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate\r\naccounts and group memberships at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477.\r\nTo specify timeout and reconnection settings for a remote session\r\n1. On the RD Session Host server, open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration. To open Remote\r\nDesktop Session Host Configuration, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote\r\nDesktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.\r\n2. Under Connections, right-click the name of the connection, and then click Properties.\r\n3. In the Properties dialog box for the connection, on the Sessions tab, select the following options as\r\nnecessary:\r\nSelect the Override user settings check box, and then set timeout settings for End a disconnected\r\nsession, Active session limit, and Idle session limit.\r\nSelect the Override user settings check box, and then select one of the following reconnection\r\nsettings: Disconnect from session or End session.\r\nhttps://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754272(v=ws.11).aspx\r\nPage 2 of 3\n\n4. Click OK. Changes to timeout and reconnection settings are not applied to sessions that are connected\r\nwhen the change is made. The changes will take effect the next time the user establishes a new connection\r\nto the RD Session Host server.\r\nYou can also configure timeout and reconnection settings by applying the following Group Policy settings:\r\nSet time limit for disconnected sessions\r\nSet time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions\r\nSet time limit for active Remote Desktop Services sessions\r\nTerminate session when time limits are reached\r\nThese Group Policy settings are located in the following locations:\r\nComputer Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Remote Desktop\r\nServices\\Remote Desktop Session Host\\Session Time Limits\r\nUser Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Remote Desktop\r\nServices\\Remote Desktop Session Host\\Session Time Limits\r\nThese Group Policy settings can be configured by using either the Local Group Policy Editor or the Group Policy\r\nManagement Console (GPMC).\r\nNote\r\nThese Group Policy settings will take precedence over the settings configured in Remote Desktop Session Host\r\nConfiguration. If both the Computer Configuration and the User Configuration policy settings are configured, the\r\nComputer Configuration policy settings take precedence.\r\nFor more information about Group Policy settings for Remote Desktop Services, see the Remote Desktop Services\r\nTechnical Reference (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=138134).\r\nFor information about configuring timeout and reconnection settings on a per user basis, see the topic \"\r\n\u003cUserAccount\u003e Properties: Sessions Tab\" in the Remote Desktop Services User Properties Help in Windows\r\nServer 2008 R2.\r\nConfigure Session Settings for Remote Desktop Services Connections\r\nSource: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754272(v=ws.11).aspx\r\nhttps://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754272(v=ws.11).aspx\r\nPage 3 of 3",
